Classes for 7 to 16 year olds

All classes for seven through sixteen year olds are held at 236 East 75th Street location.

Our program exposes children to classical and contemporary Russian literature. Sessions will focus on further development of analytical skills through independent reading, discussion, and writing about texts, and on introduction to Russian classics through read aloud. Text selections are curated by the staff and revised annually to match with current students. Children meet in small groups to share ideas and opinions about reading assigned to do at home. Children think critically, dig deeper, and take a closer look at characters, setting, language, themes, and historical context. Ample time is dedicated to discussions, promoting development of oral language and strong speaking skills.

Children ages 7 through 10 study Russian language and grammar to help them gain a stronger command of Russian written language. Starting at age 11, new grammar topics are not taught; however, students will be expected to apply the rules they have learned in previous years in their written assignments.  

In the fall of 2017 we are piloting a new program that is designed to offer customized grammar instruction to individual students and small groups. We are looking at various formats, including on-line classes and on-site 30 minute classes as schedule permits. Please email us if you are interested in a Grammar Class as well.

7 year olds

Group 1: Fridays, 4 PM – 6:30 PM  FULL

Group 2: Saturdays, 10 AM - 12:30 PM

8 year olds

Group 1: Fridays, 4 PM – 6:30 PM FULL

Group 2: Saturdays, 10 AM - 12:30 PM

9 year olds

Group 1: Fridays, 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM FULL

Group 2: Saturdays, 12 PM – 2 PM

10 year olds

Saturdays, 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM 

11 year olds

Group 1: Wednesdays, 6 PM – 8 PM 

Group 2: Saturdays, 10 AM - 12 PM

13 year olds

Tuesdays, 6 PM - 8 PM 

14 year olds

Saturdays 12:00 - 2:00 PM

16 year olds

Saturdays, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
